Black Families Advisory Group

What is the PLR Black Families Advisory Group?

The PLR Black Families Advisory Group was formed at the beginning of the 2022-23 school year in response to focus groups held in the Spring of 2022. The group will meet a total of five times during the 2022-23 school year. The purpose of the group is to provide a space for families who identify as Black to ask questions and provide feedback to the school on issues that affect Black students and families.  The goal of this work is to continue to work together with families to create an ever more inclusive school that is free of anti-Black racism. If your child attends PLR and they, or you, identify as Black, you are welcome to attend these meetings. Please reach out to Admin for more details and to be added to our email list.

Black & Indigenous Families Focus Groups

In the Spring of 2022, we held an Open Space Session for members of our community who identify as Black and/or Indigenous. This session provided us with the opportunity to share information about the Board's Multi-Year Plan and the work that we are doing at a school level to prevent and address Anti-Black and Anti-Indigenous racism. But most importantly, this session provided us with the opportunity to listen to our community and to learn what we can do better to ensure that our school is a safe and inclusive space for everyone.

Following our Open Space Session, we held a follow-up session during which members of the community expressed the desire to continue to work together and to establish a Black & Indigenous Advisory Group for our school.
